Tools for Maintaining High-Quality Malaria Case Management Services

riparazioni-falegnamerie-brescia-e-provincia

MalariaCare’s strategy is built around three key malaria case management quality assurance (QA) intervention areas:

  1. Improving the quality of malaria diagnosis using microscopy and rapid diagnostic tests (RDT).
  2. Building competency in quality clinical case management.
  3. Strengthening the quality of data collection and use for decision-making.

We emphasize strengthening capacity for constructive mentoring with continuous feedback to supervisors and providers—based on both observation and objective data—and on encouraging collaboration between clinical and laboratory staff.

The tools offered below were not produced as a comprehensive training package and not all materials were used in all countries. Rather, each was developed by MalariaCare to meet a specific need in one or more project countries. All of the tools have been tested, revised and finalized for at least one country program. Some include instructions for use (such as the training materials), while others stand on their own.

In this toolkit we have not included generic documents relating to training techniques, engaging trainees or other, general “training of trainers” content. If you need such a resource, you might start by looking at this manual created for a USAID project in Ghana.

Our teams and their Ministry of Health partners found these tools to be useful. We are pleased to offer them for download in the hope that you also will use them, either as they are or after adapting them for your situation. We encourage you to share the tools broadly, as long as there is no charge to users. If you do adapt the tools, please remember to cite MalariaCare, the President’s Malaria Initiative and this page as the source of the original documents.

We will add new tools as they are finalized, so be sure to check back!
